Health and Nutrition
Eating a well balanced lunch
Essential to the philosophy of Anneliese's is the belief that children learn concepts best through direct experience. Our health and nutrition program is designed to raise an awareness in children of the benefits of nutrition on the body and mind as well as the significance mealtime plays in culture. Lunch time is a daily ritual at Anneliese's. Our food, which is homemade and cooked fresh daily, is brought to the table to be shared and eaten with all the students. Oftentimes we incorporate homegrown fruits and vegetables from our extensive organic gardens. During lunch students practice their manners and the foreign language they are currently studying. The lunch program is also designed to eliminate "lunch competition" amongst students and to reduce the amount of waste which many packaged food produce.

The goals of our health and nutrition program are:
  • to deepen a child's appreciation for food
  • to instill in children the benefits of participating in a collective experience, even when it is difficult at times
  • to raise awareness that food is a precious resource and comes from a complex chain of organic and human-made events
  • to teach children manners and to take responsibility for their clean-up
  • to practice their foreign language through conversation and immersion.
