Foreign languages
The Manzanita Times in German Children learn foreign languages in their toddler years at Anneliese's. Throughout the primary grades, foreign language instruction becomes more structured and complex. Bilingual and multi-lingual teachers speak foreign languages throughout the day spontaneously or formally in the classroom.

German born Anneliese Schimmelpfennig, the founder of the schools, knows the practicality of foreign language acquisition. It is more than just the ability to communicate on a global scale. It raises multi-cultural consciousness and tolerance, as well. It has also been shown that multilingualism enhances the intellect of the developing child.

Kenji Hakuta, professor psychology, believes that children who speak more than one language will also learn to read more quickly than their monolingual peers (The Mirror of Language: The Debate on Bilingualism, Basic Books, 1986). Beyond the walls of the classroom, students are continually addressed in another language throughout the day. They practice their language skills through songs, games and conversations with each other and their teachers.

"Research has shown that bilingual youngsters are more imaginative, better with abstract notions and more flexible in their thinking than one language children."
— "U.S. News & World Report," July 28, 1986)
