Social studies is more than dates, time-lines and historial events; it
chronicles the cultural, moral and civic development societies as well.
It draws upon such disciplines as economics, anthropology, geography,
archeology, law, philosophy, psychology, history and art. Using an interdisciplinary approach, our social studies program engages specific topics (for example, life in ancient Greece), which are then examined from different angles. In addition to the social studies textbook, students read literature, both fiction and non-fiction, as it relates to each theme. By examining the literature, by even creating art relevant to the period or topic, students gain insight into the thoughts and experiences of other people. Our goal is for students to recognize a variety of perspectives and develop the ability to analyze and think critically about societies. |
